FAQ

Quick Answers.

How much does scaffolding cost in NZ?

Scaffolding cost in NZ depends on height, duration, complexity and access. Most residential scaffold hire ranges from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per week. Send your plans through the quote form and we'll return an itemised, fixed scaffolding price within 24 hours — no surprises.

How fast can you quote a scaffolding job?

Most free scaffolding quotes are turned around inside 24 business hours. Upload your plans or site photos via the quote form and our nearest branch will call you back the same day to confirm scope and pricing.

How long does scaffolding take to erect?

A standard residential scaffold for re-roofing, painting or gutter replacement is usually erected in a single day. Larger commercial scaffolding and engineered temporary roofs take longer — we confirm the scaffold erection and dismantling programme as part of your quote.

Do I need a permit for scaffolding in NZ?

If your scaffold or any part of the work goes onto a road, footpath or public area you'll usually need a council Corridor Access Request (CAR) and traffic management plan. We help arrange permits where required for Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty councils.

How long can scaffolding stay up in NZ?

Scaffolding can stay up as long as you need it for your project — most residential jobs hire by the week. While erected we inspect weekly and tag the scaffold, keeping it WorkSafe compliant for the whole duration.

What type of scaffolding do I need?

House painting, re-roofing, plastering, cladding and gutter replacement typically use a steel All-Round or aluminium tower scaffold. Commercial construction scaffolding often needs engineered design. Send us photos and we'll recommend the right system.

Are Total Scaffold's scaffolders certified?

Yes. We are certified scaffolders — SARNZ certified, Site Safe members, Sitewise Gold and IMPAC Prequal assessed. Every scaffolder is a qualified, WorkSafe compliant scaffolding contractor.

What areas of New Zealand do you cover?

We are a local scaffolding company servicing the entire Upper North Island from three branches — scaffolders Auckland (Mount Roskill), scaffolders Hamilton (Te Rapa) and scaffolders Tauranga (Tauriko). That covers Auckland, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty top to bottom.

Do you handle scaffold design and inspection?

Yes. We provide scaffold design and installation with engineered calculations for propping, temporary roofs and any complex scaffold — including PE sign-off and weekly scaffold inspection tags.

What scaffold systems do you supply?

Steel All-Round (Layher-style), aluminium mobile scaffold towers and static scaffold, and fibreglass / GRP for electrical and food-grade sites. Plus temporary roofing, propping, edge protection and roof scaffolding.

Scaffolding vs ladder — when do I need scaffolding?

WorkSafe NZ requires fall protection for work above 3 metres, and good practice for any work where a fall could cause serious harm. Roof work, gutter replacement, two-storey painting and re-cladding all need scaffolding rather than a ladder.
